Internet rental scams and fraud are a rising issue in our area and nationwide. We ask for your help in stopping these criminals and preventing yourself and your neighbors from falling victim to scams.
Impostors pretending to be legitimate property owners are posting rental listings on sites like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, deceiving innocent people out of their hard-earned money.
These scammers copy real rental listings and re-post them on these platforms, replacing the contact information with their own. Applicants like you reach out to these impostors to view the property and submit payments for rent and security deposits. Unfortunately, the imposter is merely pretending to be the property owner and has no legal right to lease the property. As a result, your money will be lost.
PLEASE HELP US BY TAKING THESE STEPS:
DO NOT engage with fraudulent listings. CB Property Manager will never ask you to remove our key from the lockbox and store it anywhere other than in the box. A scammer may.
DO NOT wire money to anyone. We will never ask you to wire funds.
DO NOT apply for or send money for any property you see on Craigslist or Facebook.
DO NOT apply for a property from anyone who cannot prove they are the legal owner or representative.
REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY TO THE POLICE AND THEN CALL CB Property Manager at (640) 696-5810.
